He emphasizes to be consistent in how we treat people and how we respond to each other. The cost of trust is the time spent with people, one-on-one time. This is crucial to understand each person’s needs. Steve highlights that employees should be responsible for their engagement however it is on the employer to initiate conversations and provide feedback. He focuses on the constant attention and care for employees, who are looking for more from work than just a paycheck is what provides intrinsic motivation. Even though work is about the dollars and cents, people want to work for someone who is lighthearted and can have some fun.
